Mozambique

2006

After an overnighter in J'Burg we flew to Mozambique for some R&R in the Bazaratu Archipelago (always wanted to use that word).

Catching the setting sun in Jonna's hands. Beach bungalows looking over the sea to the mainland.

This is the largest sand dune on Benguerua island where our lodge was. We climbed it later. Very hard work. We managed to get some diving done but conditions were terrible. I did 2 dives out in the open. The first was 40 hard minutes with not too much to see, and the second was a terrible 20 mins before we abandoned it as too dangerous. Visibility was poor and we saw a turtle stuck in a "tumble dryer" current. To add insult to injury I then crashed into the ladder in the swell and got a massive bruise on my hip. Jonna and I did do a later dive on the house reef which was shallow but protected and gave us some beautiful nudibranchs.
