I wasn’t due to visit Finland “officially” until later in the year, but airline issues saw me spend an overnight in Helsinki whilist enroute back from Estonia, so no pictures yet. Check back in July when there should be bear pictures here.
July 2014 finally arrived and we were off to see bears in Northern Finland. These are European Brown Bears, the same as Grizzlies in the US and they spend much of their time in Russia but cross over to Finland in the winter to search for food. The area we went to has spent 15 or so years managing the area to encourage the bears to hang around. They have built some superb hides which you stay in overnight which offer great views and photo opportunities.
